Locals call it “The City of the Dead.” It’s known otherwise as the city of Beihai, in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China. The beautiful metropolis is earned its nickname for one reason: it’s a ghost town.

More than 100 beautiful villas are standing in Beihai, but they are completely empty. The result of the complete absence of families in these mansions? Complete and utter creepiness.

The city was built for the new, rising class of wealthy people in China.
These properties were bought quickly.
However, six years later, the buildings still stand empty.
It's completely devoid of residents.
The owners of the properties are hoping that rising property prices will make the purchase worthwhile.
These homes are too far from city centers to encourage people to move into the homes.
If China keeps growing and modernizing, perhaps one day ghost cities like this one will be booming.
But for now, these mansions remain empty.
Soon, the villas will require serious maintenance and upkeep.
