Mendoza’s wife has a plot in a community garden in Grandview Heights, Ohio, that serves as the canvas for his series called The Garden. In many of the photos from that series, Mendoza eschews the traditional approach of taking photos of flowers basking in the sunlight from above, instead preferring to view the flowers from below under overcast skies.
