John Freeman is an avid ice climber with years of experience, but that experience doesn’t guarantee safety in a sport this risky. Two years ago, when climbing in Canada’s Banff National Park, a pillar of ice he was on gave way.
Freeman was sent tumbling several hundred feet down the mountain in an incredible fall that was captured by his helmet camera. Amazingly, he walked away from the harrowing experience without serious injury and was climbing again the next day.
The whole video is well worth watching, but if you’re pressed for time, skip to 2:15 for the final moments leading up to the fall at 2:45…
