Röder embarked on the project as a way to get to know her mother better, hoping to see her mom as the person she was before Röder was born. The photographer stated…
“I wanted to see her not only as my mother – but as a woman who had a life before me. A life full of hopes, first loves, dreams and ideas.”
The dresses featured in the portraits were owned by Röder’s mother, who had worn them for major events in her life, including prom and during a past job as a hairdresser.
